RECAPES-B: Strengthening research in social entrepreneurship in Benin
The RECAPES-B project – Strengthening Capacities in Social Entrepreneurship in Benin, supported by the Academy of Research and Higher Education (ARES), is part of a broader effort to strengthen institutions and foster international university cooperation aimed at developing research in social entrepreneurship.

Implemented in partnership with the University of Parakou, the London School of Economics, and ICHEC, the project aims to sustainably develop research capacities in Benin, drawing on local realities.
At ICHEC, RECAPES-B is led by Dr Frederik Claeyé.

Field workshops to structure the research of tomorrow

Following an initial webinar organised in September 2025 with local stakeholders—a key step in identifying the most pressing needs on the ground and refining the project’s scientific directions—RECAPES-B entered an operational phase in January 2026 with the organisation of capacity-building workshops in Djougou.

These workshops brought together 18 participants with diverse profiles (PhD candidates, early-career researchers and senior researchers), around a shared objective: to structure and strengthen research in social entrepreneurship, closely connected to the social, economic and political challenges of the Beninese and broader African context.

    What comes next?

The momentum initiated by the project will continue through mentoring, networking and scientific publications, in order to ensure that its achievements are sustained over time and to broaden future collaborations.

A North–South academic partnership based on mutual learning

RECAPES-B is part of a North–South academic cooperation approach grounded in mutual learning, respect for local knowledge and the co-construction of sustainable research trajectories. The workshops covered the entire research process: qualitative and quantitative methods, data analysis, ethical considerations, scientific dissemination and the valorisation of research results.

The objective is clear: to support the emergence of a new generation of Beninese researchers, capable of producing knowledge rooted in their environment and contributing to the development of relevant and sustainable social innovations.
